Dan Dare Pilot of the Future Movie

Warner Bros announced that they're going to bring Dan Dare to the big screen. Actor Sam Worthington has been hired for the title role as Dan Dare.

Plot:
"A futuristic pilot named Dan Dare sets off on an intergalactic adventure with his sidekick, Digby, to battle the evil Mekon, who plans to conquer the Earth."

But who the hell is Dan Dare? Well, Dan Dare aka the pilot of the future is a British science fiction comic hero, created in 1950 by illustrator Frank Hampson. He is often described as the British equivalent of Buck Rogers. Dan Dare (full name Colonel Daniel McGregor Dare) is chief pilot of the Interplanet Space Fleet. Although not a super-hero, he sometimes pulls off exceptional piloting and often proved extraordinarily lucky. He excels at jiu jitsu, but he most often finds non-violent solutions to predicaments. He is bound by a sense of honor, never lies, and would rather die than break his word.

Dan Dare was hugely popular in Britain in the 1950s, but didn't fare that well overseas. The new Dan Dare series published by Virgin Comics is a completely new and somewhat darker interpretation of Dan Dare though. And the movie Dan Dare will be inspired by this recent reboot of the character's adventures under writer Garth Ennis. If there's a big budget the film could be a hell of an entertaining blockbuster.
